Shut Off Valves

A common question we get asked is " Can I shut off a portion of the system with a valve"  Most of the time, due to the number of nozzles the customer wants to shut off, the answer is no. Please do a quick read of our previous blog entitled " Balancing Your Pump And Nozzles ".

Now with the understanding of this previous blog, you will need to consult the Nozzle Size And Quantity Chart. Remember it is always best to stay in the mid to upper range of the nozzle quantity. So if shutting off a quantity of nozzles that takes you to the minimum quantity or below , then this is not recommended as it will over work the pump. Typically, only shutting off a few nozzles will be possible.

If you have 2 separate areas with nozzle counts in your pump's range, you can use 2 shut off valves to turn on one or the other ( not both). This can be accomplished easily with the use of a Tee fitting, then putting a valve on each leg coming from the tee.

If you want to create zones to be turned on or off together or separate, you can use multiple pumps. The other option is to use a " Variable Frequency Pump" . These pumps have multiple outputs that can be opened or closed by various means.  The motor and pump will slow or speed up depending on the demand from the number of nozzles in use.
